‘Glass Grove’, Winterlude 2012

This years Winterlude is hosting ‘BlizzART’ an Outdoor Gallery. Ten Canadian artists were inspired by the theme ‘Northern Passion’ to express their social, cultural and environmental views. The 10 pieces are on view in Confederation Park along with the 25th international ice-carving competition Ice Sculpture and the Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival.

My piece ‘glass grove’ was selected to be part of BlizzArt. Representing the transition of light through a winter grove inspired by my surroundings living in a hardwood forest on the edge of the precambrian shield. This piece is comprised of 15 glass and steel columns that fills a 4 x 7 foot space and reaches up to 9 feet tall. The shifting movement of the light throughout the day illuminates the beauty of the glass elements, creating moments when it appears that the colour itself sings and that colour is actually commanding the space. When lit at night the columns take on a dramatic jewel like quality.

ArtPrize 2011: September 21 - October 9

ArtPrize® is a radically open competition. Open to any artist in the world who can find space. Open to anybody in Grand Rapids, Michigan who wants to create a venue. Open to a vote from anyone who attends.

ArtPrize® is an international competition with no jury or curator. The public votes on the top 10 pieces and eventually the overall winner. The event will take place September 21 to October 9, 2011 in Grand Rapids, with $474,000 in prizes, and $250,000 for first place. With 1582 artist participating in this years event there will be lots to see and vote for.

I’m very excited to be exhibiting my ‘glass forest’ at the Grand Rapids Public Museum for this years ArtPrize. The ‘glass forest’ consists of 36 free standing glass and steel columns that move through the colours of the seasons I experience in the hardwood forest of central Ontario. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face the ‘glass forest’ fills a space 20 x 8 feet.

This year in Chicago, Option Art has provided a solo space for my ‘Garden Installation’. I will have 21 garden columns along with the new series of Flowering Vine Vessels lined with silver and gold to create a physically and visually stimulating environment.
Option Art is at Booth 501 and the solo space is 503. I hope to see you there.
